Essential Skills
The Essential Skills Program is for students between the ages of 8 and 10. The design of this program is to help students transition from the half day Basic Skills Program to the rigorous, 30-hour per week Complete Training Program. The emphasis is on skating and agility, as well as developing puck control. Drill progression will be at a steady pace with continuous instructor feedback.
The students who will benefit the most from this program are the more advanced 8 and 9 year old skaters who want more ice time than offered in the Basic Skills Program or the 10 or 11 year old skater who is not sure if they are ready for the 30 hours on ice per week offered by the Complete Training Program. This week is also well suited for those who want to attend more than one week of training. Attending this week and then the Complete Training Program the week after would provide a good progression for skills development.
This week will consist of 4 hours per day of on ice hockey instruction, which will be a blend of the fun and games of the Basic Skills program and the more demanding disciplined environment of the Complete Training Program.
This program will run from 12:00 - 4:00 pm. The first half of the day generally focuses on skating and puck handling skills, whereas the second half of the day focuses on shooting and games (including a scrimmage).
